Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Master ART Therapist, Lead ART Trainer

 

Dr. Diego is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Master ART Therapist, and Master ART Trainer. Dr. Diego is the Clinical Director of Military and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) Research at the University of South Florida, a co-author on peer-reviewed ART publications, and is a consultant to the Mayo Clinic, a VA study, and Hospice. He is a certified Trauma Expert through the International Association of Trauma Professionals and trained in several emerging therapies including RTM, and Trauma-Informed Yoga.

Dr. Diego is a combat-trauma and human performance expert with over 25 years of mental health experience.  He has combined his research-based work on combat memories with human performance outcomes, creating a unique approach to help Warriors return to the fight as well as transition to the next set of challenges in life.

His practice emphasis is with combat veterans, as well as active duty, with special attention to Special Operations Forces and Special Forces. Dr. Diego has trained Army Behavioral Health Staff, including at Ranger Performance Enhancement Center. He has partnered with many veterans organizations, including warrior retreats with the Care Coalition at USSOCOM, Special Operations Golf Foundation, Warrior Mission at Ease, Peace at Home project, Brian Bill Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, and the Lone Survivor Foundation. He is on the Medical Advisory Boards of the Camaraderie Foundation and H.O.O.A.H. and is a member of the Transition Support Team for The Heroes Journey.

MARY MILLSAPS

Neuro Linguistic Practitioner, Hypnotherapist, Trauma Specialist and Coach

 

Mary Millsaps, co-founder of Operation Angel Wing and a member of the Transition Support Team with The Heroes Journey, dedicates her time to supporting the psychological and emotional needs of our nation’s heroes. Mary is a 20-year retired Paramedic and continues to serve through crisis intervention, counseling, suicide prevention, and education. She is certified in the RTM protocol and is a Diaphragmatic Breathe Coach.

Through Operation Angel Wing’s Peer Advocacy Program, Mary serves our nation’s veterans, first responders, and their families by using several teachings and techniques, including Equine Therapy, Psychological First Aid, and guided imagery.

ZEKE VANDERPOOL

Traumatic Stress Interventionist, RTM Counselor

 

Zeke Vanderpool has dedicated his life to serving and protecting others. After serving 23 years with Army Special Forces, Zeke went on to work as a deputy sheriff, a federal police officer, a federal agent, a federal intelligence operations specialist, and a law enforcement liaison officer.

As a co-founder of the non-profit organization, Operation Angel Wing, and a member of the Transition Support Team for The Heroes Journey, Zeke continues to serve our nation’s warriors by providing Question/Persuade/Refer (QPR) training for suicide prevention, Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) protocol, and PTS intervention services. He is a talented singer, songwriter, and guitarist, and he uses music as a vehicle for story to bridge the gap for transitioning veterans and first responders.

As a public speaker, warrior storyteller, and coach with Rooftop Leadership, Zeke shares his scars and lessons learned with business leaders, veterans, first responders, and civilians, and he teaches them to harness the power of story.

In addition to being the Deputy Director of The Heroes Journey, Alliy Vetzel is a tour manager and logistics coordinator for “Last Out: Elegy of a Green Beret”. Alliy comes from a long line of veterans and honors their legacy by serving her community as a volunteer EMT.

As a certified Reconsolidation of Traumatic Memories (RTM) counselor, Alliy is also a member of The Heroes Journey Transition Support Team. Alliy is an Army spouse and is passionate about helping veterans, first responders, and their families.
